We recently voted, through our church’s Administrative Council, to include a
representative from our Youth Group to sit and have voice and vote on the board. This
feels so right to me.
After teaching Bible and U.S. History in the local Christian School, I have seen reason to
hope in the youth of America. We have folks involved heavily in the Future Farmers of
America; and those choosing the great route of being mentored and employed through
U.S. Sugar or other vocational opportunities. We also have a number of young persons
choosing a range of academic endeavors through colleges in-state and abroad; and
young persons choosing to serve our country in our armed forces.
I am excited to see them explore the different avenues available to them to study and
work. When asked what my advice is to those struggling to make a career choice, I tell
them there are at least three things to keep in mind; discern and pray about where your
God-given gifts and talents may lead you; finding out what you don’t like doing, helps
you discover what you enjoy doing; and don’t let the compensation of the position be
the only driver in your decision making process. Because if you enjoy what you do, you
will never work a day in your life!
The Apostle Paul did not start his life out by writing books of the New Testament, Jesus
called him to serve and look at what we was able to accomplish for the kingdom. Moses
was educated to be a king and wound up serving The King of Creation. There are many
Biblical stories that can serve as inspiration to those looking for hope and direction.
I pray God’s blessings on the Youth of America and in particular our youth here in the
Glades. May they prayerfully and intently listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
I realize it’s not graduation time yet, but it never hurts to pray over people we love and
care about as they prepare for new adventures.
To the youth of today I add; 1st Timothy 4:12 [reads] Let no one despise you for your
youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
God bless you as you embark upon your most excellent journey
