It seems like we are running towards the end of this year! Happy Fall brothers and sisters in Christ. I hope you have been exploring the gospels along with me as we look a bit closer at the most amazing stories ever told!
Each of the four gospels shares the good news of Jesus Christ from different perspectives. Matthew begins the New Testament by sharing the Davidic lineage of Jesus. Mark’s gospel dives right into the ministry of Jesus when he invites all people into repentance and a place in the Kingdom of God!
Luke’s gospel is probably the most well known as it is used so much at Christmas time to share the details of Jesus birth. Luke was also a physician and a well educated man who shared his talented Greek writing abilities with us in his narrative. You may not know this but Luke was not one of the original twelve disciples, but had a good relationship with Paul.
Finally, we have the Gospel of John. If you read the first chapter of John you will discover a very different writing style. I like that because it demonstrates the different vantage points within the gospel narratives and John’s story reminds us that “in the beginning” (John 1:1, Genesis 1:1) our triune God was busy with creation and Father, Son and Holy Spirit were all present and accounted for.
The most amazing aspect of these stories is that Jesus gave his life for all of humanity and because of his sacrifice, we have the promise of eternal life with God. “All scripture is God breathed…” 2nd Timothy 3:16-17. And as God breathed upon the writers of the Bible something special happened that can forever change our life. I pray God’s Word is transforming us all, everyday.
God loves you and so do I,
